Things to Do Before Summer Ends: How to Make Summer Count!

By Vivian Gonzalez on August 5, 2013

The following is a list of things to do before summer ends.  Hurry, Hurry, time is running out and, after all, everyone should be guided on how to make summer count!

1. Visit your family.

You never know how much you miss them until you see them. I went six months without seeing mine and felt just fine, but couldn’t quite put my finger on what was missing. When I finally did see them, I felt an overwhelming joy envelope me and I thought to myself, “this was it.”  The thing about family is, they know you better than anyone. Consequently, it’s easy for them to put your mind at ease, to relax you from the mundane stresses that consume your everyday. Give them a chance, they work wonders for your happiness.

2. Watch a summer blockbuster.

No, I don’t mean an abandoned business, I mean a movie that has received great commercial success. The Conjuring (2013) might be a good option for all those who like to experience nightly unrest. Directed by James Wan (that same guy who brought you Saw [2004] and Insidious [2010]), the film follows the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal detectives who attempt to help a family haunted by an evil presence in their remote farmhouse. Word of warning: if you do decide to watch it, please, be honest in  your Facebook posts. None of that, “that Conjuring film sucked. I wasn’t even scared.”  Trust me, you will be.

3. Go to the beach

By far the best advice I can give you on how to make summer count: If you haven’t done so already, grab a few coronas and some friends and go to the beach! There’s nothing more refreshing for these hot summer days than that massive body of water… And some alcohol. Take some towels and lay out on the sand or stay in the water all day, no matter- a day at the beach is a day well spent. And for those of you who have to travel longer in order to reach the shore, burn some nostalgic CD’s, convince your closest peeps, and hit the road! Making a road trip out of a small outing is one of the most rewarding experiences of our young adult life.

4. Go winter clothes shopping.

Though you don’t have to wear those bulky coats and sweaters come mid-August, winter shopping in the summer is the best and most inexpensive way to be fashionably ready for the fall! Consignment and donation centers that sell their merchandise, such as Good Will, are usually fully stocked with brand name coats, jackets and sweaters this time of year.  And for all those who don’t see much cold during the winter months, it’s never a bad time to rebuild your wardrobe!

5. Buy books in advance.

If you have the funds for it, now is the best time to purchase your required fall semester text books. It certainly beats waiting hours on end in interminable lines at the university bookstore. If you are already registered for classes, go online to your school’s blackboard site, look at your class schedule from the secure apps menu, then follow the link to the purchase books site. Naturally, you do not have to purchase the book from that specific site, however, it provides a nice description of what books are required as well as their names and pictures of their covers. Then you can choose to preorder them for substantially less from eBay or amazon. That way, you won’t have to go crazy awaiting last minute deliveries come the first week of classes.

6. Make sure to have an amazing, unforgettable, must repeat, top of the line, won’t regret a thing about it, live it all over again if I could, fall in live with, did so many new things, made new friends, did all I wanted to, know what I’m doing next, crazy, nonstop, never ending, joyous, best journey EVER, make summer count, summer!
